Social Media in Review

Overall, the semester was super interesting… but it also made me realize that I don’t want to do social media.

For a while, I thought I wanted to try and be a social media influencer. Honestly, what person from our generation hasn’t thought about it. I tried to do a 365 challenge, but eventually I started posting on my instagram daily for a week, and then I wouldn’t post for 3 months.

During my time here at Creighton, I learned that while I do want to work in multimedia, I want to work on high end commercial work for TV. On top of that, I discovered that high end commercial video doesn’t do well on social media, especially in comparison to low production value content like Reels and Tik Toks. People watch web content to see content that feels real (even though they obviously aren’t). Stukent was a huge eye opener. It was super interesting, but I strongly disliked it. It may have a lot to do with how much I had to compress it in order to complete it, though. That’s my fault.

The only thing I wish we talked more about were the specific algorithms for social media sites today. I know they change frequently, as instagram changes theirs about every 2 years, but it would’ve been interesting to see how they’ve changed over the years.
