Who Am I?

I’ve struggled with this question for the last seven years of my life. During that time, I’ve learned a ton, and changed a lot - but at the same time, I’ve remained essentially the same person.

I’m a creative person, a filmmaker. I’m a perfectionist, I try to be unique, I’m passionate about my skillset, I invest time in myself…. And sometimes I can come across as an egotistical know-it-all.

Where do I want to be?

My dream is to work in commercial advertising as a director of photography or a colorist. I’m drawn to lifestyle brands, and that’s the type of content I want to create. I feel it’s the strongest form of advertising, and it’s the type of advertising that’s most resonant with me.

What have I Iearned?

The main thing I’ve learned in college is how to finish things, and accept they won’t be perfect. I’ve learned to look at every opportunity to create as an opportunity to learn, and improve my process for the next project. It’s one of those things where I’d heard it a million times, but until I’d been in the room with someone confident enough to execute their ideas to completion, I never really understood how to do it.

What do I want to do?

I like to think I’m really good behind the camera, but everybody wants to run a camera. It’s a fun career, and it looks cool. Cameras are fun. Realizing this, I’ve decided to develop my skills as a colorist - an aspect of video that’s always interested me, and I finally decided to develop the skills.

The interesting thing about colorists is that it’s one of the highest paid positions in post production. It’s incredibly important and highly technical, and a has a large skill gap. The time I’ve invested in learning these skills has set me up with a unique skillset that makes my work stand out from those around me, when most are using LUTs, or aren’t coloring their footage at all, I’m developing unique looks for every project to best serve the story I’m trying to tell.

But who am I?

I’m a filmmaker learning to create for myself through creation for others.

My dream job is literally to create for others. If I can’t find a way to pour a little bit of myself into every project I create, It’ll become like any other job, and I’ll have put all my work pushing myself to be better, to waste. Whether I’m creating for others, or simply adding my piece to a larger project, every project I take on is an opportunity to grow.
