This is probably the most important project I got to make during my time at Creighton, because it represents everything Creighton meant to me, and in a way, is my “thank you” for the past four years.
The 2019 NSO Kickoff video is one of the first videos I ever got to work on with the Creative Suite. I assisted my Mike Ehrhart with the filming of the project, solely shooting the second angle of interviews for that project. We made a lot of mistakes when we filmed that video… but it also served as a great teaching moment, and is a huge part of the reason I am where I am today. In a way, it’s poetic that it’s the last video I got to make during my time at Creighton.
When creating the visual style for this piece, I opted for something nostalgic, euphoric, and filmic. I also wanted to make the project feel impressive, and grand, and that led me to choose the cinemascope aspect ratio, because of how immersive it feels. I also tried to dirty up the frame, adding artifacts like chromatic aberration and halation to create interest. Finally, I added film grain, to give the piece a bit of texture. Ultimately I wanted the video to feel like a home movie, warm and cozy, but look like as professional as possible, because that’s the attention to detail Creighton deserves.
From a graduated senior, Thank you Creighton, for everything.
